Celebrating Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate and recognize the significant contributions of women throughout history. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho, we understand the importance of recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of women, as many of our mentors and mentees are young girls and women.

Women’s History Month dates back to 1987 when Congress declared March as National Women’s History Month. The month was chosen to honor the achievements of women in American history because it coincides with International Women’s Day on March 8th. The celebration of Women’s History Month reminds us of the progress that has been made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done.

The theme for Women’s History Month 2023 is “Celebrating Women’s Strength, Resilience, and Leadership.” This theme recognizes the many ways in which women have shown strength and resilience, often in the face of adversity. Women have broken barriers and shattered glass ceilings in various fields, including politics, business, sports, and entertainment. They have fought for their rights, advocated for those who are marginalized, and changed the course of history.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho, we strive to inspire the next generation of women leaders by providing young girls with positive role models and mentors. We believe that every young girl has the potential to achieve greatness, and we want to help them realize their full potential. Our mentors serve as examples of what is possible when one works hard and stays determined.

During Women’s History Month, we encourage our mentors and mentees to learn about the accomplishments of women throughout history. We believe that by understanding the struggles and successes of women who came before us, we can gain inspiration and insight into how to continue the fight for gender equality.

There are many ways to celebrate Women’s History Month, including attending events, reading books and articles, and sharing stories of inspiring women with friends and family. It is also a time to reflect on the progress that has been made and the work that still needs to be done. By recognizing the accomplishments of women and continuing to fight for gender equality, we can create a more just and equitable society for all.

Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and leadership of women. It’s also the perfect time to thank our amazing mentors for the gift they are to their Littles. They inspire, encourage, and see the best in these young women. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho, we are committed to empowering young girls to become leaders and change-makers. We know that by providing them with positive role models and mentors, we can help them achieve their full potential and make a positive impact on the world.
